Happy International Women Human Rights Defender Day!
We celebrate individuals who advocate for human rights and gender equality and carry out valuable work in our society. It is tragic that they can be harmed or even killed for what they believe in. On this day our focus is on recognising female activists who highlight gender-specific issues.
Possibly the most famous contemporary human rights activist is Malala Yousafzai. She advocates for female education in Pakistan, Malala was shot after she became more recognised.
Numerous activists have been killed like this, which further confirms that women face terrible violence and it needs to end. That is why we endorse campaigns like 16 Days of Activism and spread the word about gender-based violence.
